Ginseng (Root) Ginseng is used as a tonic. People with diabetes should not use ginseng.


Ginseng can be consumed in many ways.

Add to you diet Ginseng root can be consumed in many ways. It can be eaten raw or you can lightly steamed. It can be made into a tea. To do this, just add hot water to freshly sliced ginseng and let it steep for several minutes. Ginseng can be added to various recipes. The extract can be found in powder, tablet, capsule and oil forms. A 200-mg dose is recommended.

Ginseng may reduce the effectiveness of anticoagulant drugs. For these reasons, talk to your doctor before supplementing with it. Use ginseng in 2–3-week cycles with a one or two week break in between is best. While ginseng appears to be safe, people taking certain medications should pay attention to possible drug interactions.
