The leaves are used to lower cholesterol, as well as forum kidney and urinary tract ailments, although there is insufficient scientific evidence for its efficacy.

It is also used for high cholesterol, asthma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and upset stomach. People also take alfalfa as a source of vitamins A, C, E, and K4; and minerals calcium, potassium, phosphorous, and iron.
